A Cardamom
is a perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae).
It has simple erect stems grows up to about 5ft to 15ft high.
The flowering stems are about one metre long, may be upright
or sprawling, each bears numerous flowers, with greenish petals
and a purple-veined white lip. The plant gives green fruit pod(Cardamom)
about 0.8 to 1.5 cm long. The whole fruit pod is a three-sided
oval capsule, containing 15 to 20 dark, reddish brown to brownish
black, hard, angular aroma seeds.
Cardamom
has a strong, unique taste, with an intensely aromatic, resinous
fragrance. They are a popular seasoning in South Asian dishes.
It is the third most expensive spice in the world, after saffron
